Gareth Mawer is an intellectual, visionary, radical and a manager. His primary focus is on building a much better future. Influencing the lives of as many people as possible brings Gareth great meaning and satisfaction focussing on the macro rather than the micro. Let’s change the world for the betterment of humanity.
We must create new institutions fighting the parochialism and disregard for truth in modern society. Humanity will fail its future generations if we focus on preserving the ways of old, rather than meeting the challenges of the 21st century head on. Climate change, AI and bioengineering represent existential threats for our future generations. Climate change must be stopped. Harnessing AI and bioengineering is key for ensuring those technologies better humankind rather than create a dystopia.
Gareth Mawer created the Rationalist, a publication, detailing what these new institutions and systems will look like and how they will help humanity. It embodies the values of rational enquiry, the scientific methodology and free enquiry that are the pillars of knowledge and enlightenment. From reason we get morality. From morality we get virtue. From virtue we get a life worth living.
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.Leo Tolstoy
The world will not love you if you cannot love yourself. The world will not love if you cannot make yourself vulnerable to it. The world will not love you if you shy away from it.
Simply, the purpose of this platform is changing oneself so that oneself can change the world. The Rationalist is focussed on the world and the realisation of Gareth’s ambitions. Gareth Mawer, the blog, is focussed on the personal. Focussed on ensuring Gareth can realise his ambitions.
Gareth has autism and dyspraxia forming a neurodiverse brain, pathologically called a neurodevelopmental disorder. Traumatic experiences and poor emotional development has led Gareth fighting demons such as severe social anxiety and depression. This website explains Gareth’s struggles integrating and combating key aspects of a gentle, but simultaneously self-loathing, person.
If this blog can be of help to anyone struggling with any of these issues, then its purpose will have been fulfilled.
